Make A Simple Project:Binding the Edges
Attach the Binding and Miter the Corners

Annie demonstrates how to sew the binding to the back of the bag, mitering each corner as she goes.

Though this is just a small project, the technique would be exactly the same if you were binding the edges of a quilt.
