I like using this strapping for the handles in many of my bag and purse patterns.  

Pattern instructions will show you how to make a handle from fabric that matches the project, with strapping inserted into the fabric handle for added strength and durability. 

I use white strapping for light colors of fabric and black strapping for medium to dark colors of fabric.
