Tips and Techniques

— for quilters and fabric lovers

Frustrated with rulers that slip and slide?

Here's a cheap and easy solution:

Cut a piece of clear vinyl* to cover the bottom of the ruler, leaving the tissue paper in place. Lightly iron the vinyl (again with the paper in place) using a medium heat setting.

While the vinyl is still soft and flexible, quickly remove the paper and press the viny to the back side of your ruler. The static will cause it to stick to the ruler.

You'll find that the vinyl prevents slipping of the ruler as you cut — but it does not interfere with seeing through the markings. Try it — you'll like it!
