ByAnnie Top Voted

WINNER: Janet W.

ABOUT: Janet sewed this Ultimate Travel Bag with fabric she purchased from the Busy Bobbin Quilt Shop in Rice Lake, WI, USA.

THEIR STORY: “I just love the Ultimate Travel Bag. I have gifted many of them to family and have also donated some to be raffled for benefits. I try to find a fabric that will fit the person who will be receiving the bag. This one is going to someone that likes bears and wild animals. It was a tough assignment to find fabric to fit that description, so I chose a panel with coordinating fabric for the inside and for the straps.

This is my 13th Ultimate Travel Bag I've made. I'm still working on perfecting the Cadillac finish for the inside binding, but with each bag it gets better & better!"

WHAT WE LOVED: One ByAnnie team member said, "I love Janet's bag that was designed with someone in mind. It really makes nature fun."

WHAT THEY WON: $50 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Storyteller Award

WINNER: Katrina G.

ABOUT: Katrina is new to bag making and shared a great story about sewing her Back At Ya 2.1 backpack purse.

THEIR STORY: “I am a complete beginner to bag making, and this was my second ever attempt at both quilting and bag making (the first being the Catch All Caddy 2.0!).

I first discovered Patterns by Annie through watching Annie's series of classes on Bluprint. When I saw this fabric collection in the store, I knew I wanted to do something special with it, and the Back At Ya 2.1 pattern seemed to be the perfect fit - a small, manageable project for a newbie like me, which wouldn't take too long to complete and would help me build confidence in my bag making and quilting skills.

It was super easy working with Soft and Stable, and this time around I took the time to sew around the edge of each piece at least twice to really compress it down and give myself as easy a time as possible when attaching the binding.

The techniques for handling zippers, making and applying binding were super straight forward, and I was really proud of how much I had improved with my binding skills compared to my first project. This was also my first time working with a sew in magnetic snap, and Annie's clear and simple instructions made it a breeze to install!

I love the size of this backpack, and I take it along with me everywhere - from a quick trip to the grocery store (it perfectly holds a bottle of milk and a carton of eggs), to my daily walks to the dog park with my puppy.

All my friends and family are impressed with my backpack and even my fiance wants one too!"

WHAT WE LOVED: We love that Katrina took the time to share her process, and we love how professional and well-finished her backpack turned out! Great work, Katrina!

Honorable Mention

WINNER: C. Wright

ABOUT: C sewed an Ultimate Travel Bag and Got Your Back 2.1 backpack for a trip that was eventually postponed.

THEIR STORY: “I had my first trip abroad planned to go to Spain with a friend and wanted to make the perfect carry-on. This is how I came across patterns ByAnnie. My trip was postponed because of Covid-19, but we will still travel when the situation gets better. I now have 2 beautiful bags for my trip.

I spent a considerable amount of time picking the perfect fabric for me and am so thrilled with how beautiful my Ultimate Travel Bag turned out. I then decided I needed the Got Your Back 2.1 back pack to match!"

WHAT STOOD OUT: One of our ByAnnie team members had this to say about C's submission, "She really put a lot of thought into how she photographed her bags, and they look so professionally made. I hope she gets to travel soon so she can show them off!"

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Esther S.

ABOUT: Esther discovered The Essential Backpack on Bluprint/Craftsy, and she did a great job sewing it all together for a friend's birthday!

THEIR STORY: "I’m 11 years old and I saw the backpack class on Bluprint. I thought it looked really cool and I wanted to make it for my friend’s birthday.

This was the biggest project I have done. I learned a lot about sewing and about the machine. And that it all worked out in the end even when it didn’t seem like it would when I was sewing the pieces.

I really enjoyed doing the backpack and I’m glad Ms. Unrein taught the class. She’s a good teacher. I like that she didn’t just teach one way of doing things. She gave us options."

WHAT STOOD OUT: Our staff loved seeing Esther's finished project. One team member said, "I love seeing her hold her finished bag up in front of those chickens! The bag looks awesome, too, I hope she sews many more!"

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Hasmukhben A.

ABOUT: Hasmukhben sewed an Out And About pattern to use at work (radiation therapist)-- and the fabric she used was from a retired work uniform!

THEIR STORY: “Hi there! I decided to use the Out and About pattern to make a backpack purse for work. I am a Radiation Therapist at a hospital. We have corporate issued uniform scrubs and each discipline has its own color. I decided to use a used uniform which I no longer wear because of ink stains. When I cut the pattern I fussy cut around the pockets and zippers so that I could incorporate them in the bag. I also added sliders to adjust straps as well as parachute clips.

I’m very pleased with the outcome.

Even as an experienced sewer I am very, very glad that I had the Add-on Video. It made everything a whole lot simpler to understand. The stiletto is a must have! Thank you for another great design."

WHAT STOOD OUT: We thought it was so innovative to use a old work uniform for a work bag. Great job, Hasmukhben, we can't wait to see what you sew next!

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Irene L.

ABOUT: Irene sewed Meshing Around bags for her grandchildren, filling them with their 'Cousin's Camp' necessities. What an idea!

THEIR STORY: “Each year I host a Cousin’s Camp for my 5 grandchildren. A week of swimming, activities, crafts and bonding with their out-of-state cousins. When I saw Annie’s Meshing Around pattern, I knew this would be the perfect bag to hold their camp T-shirts & treasures!

Though I am an experienced sewer, it is my first ByAnnie pattern and first time working with mesh & elastic. The pattern was detailed, so easy to follow, and the Add-on Video proved valuable and gave me confidence. I especially appreciated the special instructions about directional fabrics.

It was so great to be able to choose mesh & elastic at ByAnnie.com to complement the fabrics I had chosen to suit each child’s personality! I even attached a personalized label so they would know their bag was made just for them. I think they turned out great! They are so functional ...and a big hit with the kids! My only regret... I didn’t get a photo of them running around with their bags on!"

WHAT STOOD OUT: One team member said, "So many mesh bags, I love it! They're so colorful and exciting to look at in a group with the beach towels. Such a treat."

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com
