"Inspired By FreeSpirit": Beautiful Bindings

Did you catch our 'Inspired by' Facebook LIVEstream with FreeSpirit Fabrics? If you didn't, we have the video here (below) and on our YouTube channel, so you can join in on the fun. Annie and FreeSpirit Fabrics have teamed up to share tips and tricks when it comes to sewing beautiful bindings that are smooth and wrinkle-free. Bindings are a great way to cover raw edges and they make your bag stand out by looking professional and polished.
In this blog, we've included a number of items mentioned in the video, as well as supplemental links and information. Enjoy, and let us know what you've learned in the comments!
The tool that makes all the difference!
ByAnnie Stiletto & Pressing Tool
This is our all-star bias binding tool. Of course, we use it for much more than just binding (such as holding pieces in place as we sew, or pressing seams open). Our stiletto makes it easy to pull binding over raw edges for the tight, snug, wrinkle-free appearance that we love.
Features:
- Lightweight
- Flat edges so it doesn’t roll
- Pressing tool on end
- Sand-ground point for extra-grip

Other helpful tools.
Annie’s Tips for Managing Bulk and Layers:
Sewing through many layers can cause frustration and broken needles... but it doesn't have to!
To make it easier, we've made a list of Annie's best tips for sewing through bulk and included time-stamps for the moments in the video that she hits on those points.

Patterns for practice.
Three of our four ByAnnie Basics PDF patterns include a lesson on making/attaching bias binding in their Add-on Video tutorials. Sewing these projects is a great way to practice! Share your best bindings with us on social media by tagging your projects with #ByAnnieBindings or #BeautifulBindings.
Thank you very much for watching this week’s ‘Inspired by FreeSpirit’ video on Beautiful Bindings! We hope you learned a lot about sewing smooth, wrinkle-free binding so you can successfully sew professional-looking bags.
