ByAnnie Top Voted

WINNER: Lorelle D.

ABOUT: Lorelle sewed this Round Trip Duffle, Meshing Around, and Easy Does It. She put us all in the mood for fall weather with the beautiful photo she took.

THEIR STORY: "My Mom used to make beautiful quilts and sewing projects such as wall banners to mark special events. I received her sewing machine last year when she passed away, so I started making gifts for the nieces' milestones. This is an "Adulting" gift for a niece moving out of their parents houses for the first time. Everyone needs a handy overnight bag and laundry basket for life's adventures.

This is the third set I've given to nieces and honorary nieces. The fourth set is cut out and ready to start."

WHAT WE LOVED: One ByAnnie team member said, "Lorelle's picture is great with the leaves in it. Here comes fall!"

Storyteller Award

WINNER: Ginny P.

ABOUT: Ginny shared this beautiful story about sewing a Changing Station for her friend's daughter.

THEIR STORY: “A Miracle and Labor of Love!

Five years ago my friend Paula’s daughter Alexis became engaged to James. I remember how happy Paula, Alexis and James were, but then bad news was delivered. Alexis had Ovarian Cancer and one of her ovaries would need to be removed. The surgery was done and the Wedding plans progressed.

They have been very happily married but the one thing that was missing from their life was a baby to turn their home into a family. Finally, after several years of trying to have a baby, they considered InVetro. When consulting with a doctor about a year ago and undergoing tests, to their delight, the doctor announced, “Alexis, you are already pregnant!” “Oh my gosh, it’s a miracle” was all everyone could say!

It was about that time I saw on ByAnnie’s website, the pattern, Changing Station. So I quickly ordered the pattern and looked for some fun fabric for a Changing Station for Alexis, James and of course, the baby.

This was such a fun project to work on because I knew who I was making it for. I love Annie’s patterns because they are so easy to follow and I like the fact that she has you make all the little extra’s before tackling the big parts. That way when your project is almost done, you have all the finishing touches to add and it IS done!

Yesterday was the baby shower for Alexis. Alexis got many nice and needed gifts but only one Changing Station. I showed her how the Changing Pad was detachable and could be washed and the entire Changing Station folded up into a neat Clutch with a carrying handle and also a wrist/stroller strap. I put some diapers in the mesh pockets and pointed out the outside pocket for her personal items. Lastly, I explained, when Timmy (they found out the baby is a boy) was older he could use the Clutch as his own “briefcase” for toting his toys and play items.

This was a labor of love for me and speaking of labor, Timmy is due in late October!"

WHAT WE LOVED: We loved how thoughtful Ginny's gift was, and her story was so uplifting. One ByAnnie team member said, "I loved her story, after a long journey her friend was able to conceive. So she made her a beautiful Changing Station stitched with love. Reminds me what sewing/tradition is all about."

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Angie K.

ABOUT: Angie sewed this Hogwarts-themed Going Places Garment Bag for a Harry Potter-loving bookworm.

THEIR STORY: “This garment bag was created for a Harry Potter loving bookworm who sorts into House Slytherin. She's still waiting for her letter to Hogwarts, and while she watches for that owl, now she's got her luggage all ready to go!

This project was a fun make, and surprisingly easy despite how many zippers were involved. The pattern instructions were straight-forward, well-written, and descriptive. The fabric I chose for this made my quilting easy - I just ran my stitches directly on top of the printed pattern of "stitches" on the flannel. They didn't line up on the cotton on the underside, but they looked really cool on the exterior/main fabric, and best of all, there was no need to mark any lines. Talk about a time saver!

My habit is to make a copy of the instructions when I begin a ByAnnie pattern, so I can write all over them as I go. Being able to check off each step, highlight things I don't want to forget, and circle where I leave off makes it so much easier to keep track of all the details.

I've got the fabric and supplies for my next project - the super challenging "Divide and Conquer" - sitting on my cutting table right now. With the tools you provide and the skills I've learned with each new project, I think I'm finally ready to give it a go!"

WHAT STOOD OUT: One of our ByAnnie team members had this to say about Angie's submission, "Angie Key made me want the garment bag she sewed. I knew she sewed it for someone special, but I'm a little jealous she didn't make it for me... and I'm not even a Harry Potter fan. I guess her bookworm can keep it... for now! Beautiful job!"

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Julius H.

ABOUT: Julius challenged himself and the results are stunning! We can't get enough of his rainbow Running With Scissors!

THEIR STORY: "I've been sewing for years now and it never crossed my mind to actually quilt or make or sew a tool case/bag. In Dubai, we don't get a lot of resources when it comes to quilting so we need to source from outside the region. So when I started quilting, I collected up multiple quilting tools and just one day I realized I do not have a special case for them. Then one day, I came across a video of Tula Pink introducing this amazing tool case and I knew right at that moment, I needed to make this bag.

The tool bag was designed in a modern way that reflects my aesthetics and I fell in love with it in an instant. So I got the pattern and the materials and went right on it. This was the first bag I ever sewn and it went smoothly. The soft and stable foam is a revelation as I worked with it without any difficulty and made my project looking so professional. I learned mostly the importance of following directions on the pattern and sewing one stitch at a time especially with curves (as in this case, the zippers and the bindings). I knew right from the beginning that I will love this pattern and have decided to challenge myself with other Annie's patterns."

WHAT STOOD OUT: One team member said, "Nice shot with sun through the trees and contrast between fabrics and greens of nature. Also, cool story to hear they are from Dubai and made it all."

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Michael

ABOUT: Michael sewed a set of Clam Ups for a niece. Aren't they adorable?

THEIR STORY: “My niece requested a special bag for pencils, pens and markers for the new school year. I had already made her sister some Quick Zip cases, so she wanted some fun zipper bags too. Her request was “rainbows and unicorns.” I think this fabric fits the bill, and the By Annie zippers in Pale Pink and Robin’s Egg were a perfect match. I customized the medium bag with a clutch strap on a swivel hook. She loves them!"

WHAT STOOD OUT: One ByAnnie team member said, "I thought it was cute that they made these Clam Ups special for their nieces. As an uncle myself, I am a big fan of this!"

Another team member said, "I love the fabric Michael chose! I'm sure their niece is going to love using these pouches to carry items that are important to her. I know I loved having a special place for my pencils and all my fun-shaped erasers when I was a kid."

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Roma

ABOUT: Roma sewed the perfect bag to hold her roller skates: an Ultimate Travel Bag 2.0!

THEIR STORY: “I wanted to make a custom bag for my Roller Skates. The "Ultimate Travel Bag 2.0" was the perfect fit for what I needed. I made my bag 2 inches narrower and 1 inch shorter (which will still accommodate the ByAnnie plexiglass "Base Stabilizer") and I customized the handles to better fit my hands.

This is only the second project of this type that I have made, the other being the "Clam Up" zippered pouches in every size, also a ByAnnie pattern. I found the directions for the "Ultimate Travel Bag 2.0" to be 'spot-on' and the bag with all its pockets easy to assemble!

The bright fabric "Geometry" by RJR Studio and a custom Roller Skate print by 'Spoonflower.com' will cheer me on every time that I load my skates into the bag.

I can't wait to take it to the Senior Skate Session that I attend at my local rink. EVERYONE, especially the ladies, are going to be so jealous! #rollerskatingover50."

WHAT STOOD OUT: One team member said, "I laughed when I read her story. I hope all the ladies are jealous of her bag!" Such a cool bag!
