In this class, I’ll share the secrets to sewing high-quality bags with beautiful finishes.
We’ll begin by making the Everything In Its Place bag (shown above on right).
Discover the secrets to making bags that look like you bought them, not like you made them. Choosing the proper stabilizer is key and I'll tell you all about ByAnnie's Soft and Stable, a stabilizer that I developed to give great body and stability, and a professional finish to all your bags and purses.
Learn how to choose and quilt your fabric, and find out how to cut and layer pieces for a polished look.
Get helpful tips for holding the stabilizer sleeve in place and stitching strong handles.
Then, find out how to install a smooth-as-silk double-slide handbag zipper.
We’ll talk mesh next, as we create one open pocket and one zippered variation.
Next, we’ll create custom pocket pages.
Get started by learning how to cut vinyl and sew a variety of pocket types.
I’ll share tips for easily using ByAnnie’s Zippers by the Yard to make zippers of any size.
You’ll learn how to make single- or double-slide zippers, and install pulls with ease.
Then, attach your vinyl pockets and discover a terrific alternative to pins that hold your fabric in place without leaving “nonhealing” holes.
Add a hook and loop fastener and round your corners for a flawless finish.
Once we’ve created our pocket pages, we’ll bind the pages, assemble the bag, and attach zipper pulls.
I’ll show you how to gently ease the binding around the corners of the pages and how to join the ends of your binding for a seamless, bumpless finish.
Next, assemble your bag, and get tips for how to position your interior mesh pockets.
I’ll also share tips to prevent your bag from pooching when full!
Tired of wrangling your cosmetics when on the go?
The hanging cosmetics bag we’ll make in the next lesson solves that problem and more!
We’ll reinforce what you’ve learned so far, and add a few new techniques to your bag of tricks.
Learn to attach the handle and shoulder straps, and attach a zipper on a curved edge with beautiful, clean results.
I’ll share two quick and easy methods for turning fabric into custom straps and handles—you’re going to LOVE them!
Now let’s work on making your bag as beautiful inside as it is on the outside!
Discover the correct order of assembling your bag pieces, so that lines of stitching don’t go through pockets. Together, we’ll prepare the facing and attach one flat pocket to your bag. You’ll get a chance to practice this easy method as you install the rest of the flat pockets.
Then, I’ll walk you step-by-step through the process of installing the curved bottom pocket. I’ll even show you how to make sure your zipper pull doesn’t come off as you work.
To finish your bag, we’ll review how to bind edges and attach zipper pulls.
You’ll also learn to make adjustable straps.
We’ll review my consistently successful method for joining ends of binding and I’ll show tips for using a stiletto to hold pieces in place as you ease around corners.
Finally, take your beautiful bag to the next level with an adjustable strap for carrying your organizer over the shoulder or across your body.
