Trunk Shows

  • Schedule a trunk show with samples of all 12 projects. This eliminates the need for you to make all the projects right away and really gets customers (and staff!) excited about the program.
  • Trunk show models may be borrowed for 1 month and are available on a first come/first served basis, so reserve your spot early.
  • Note that you must purchase six patterns for each model that you borrow. This is in addition to the pattern requirement for the project-of-the-month program. You'll appreciate having these patterns on hand for customers who are not participating in the program or who want the pattern NOW.

Laptop Computer Carriers 2.0 Demo/Class Tips

  • Discuss the features of both the Laptop Case and the Laptop Carrier and point out differences.
    • If students have a different size of portable computer/tablet, suggest our Netbook Computer Carriers or Executive Carryalls patterns. The patterns are all very similar with changes primarily in sizes.
  • Demo how to layer main and lining fabrics with Soft and Stable to quilt pieces needed for the bag.
  • If you have any newbies, a discussion of cutting pieces using rotary cutters/rulers would also be helpful.
  • Demo how to make the Padded Handle using fabric and Soft and Stable.
  • Demo how to attach a zipper between the Zipper Strips and how to join the Zipper Strip to the Side Strip.
    • Point out how the extra lines of stitching in the seam allowance compress the layers, reducing bulk in the seam.
  • Demo how to attach a zipper to the outer pocket and bind the upper edge of the zipper.
  • Demo how to round corners, explaining the importance of rounding using the proper size of circle.
    • Be sure to have plenty of Creative Grids Circle Rulers on hand.
  • Demo how to join the Zipper/Side Strip to the Front or Back of the Case. Be sure to use Wonder Clips!
  • Demo how to bind the raw edges using bias binding and how to join ends.

The first class can be spent preparing the components and they can finish those at home before returning for the second class. In the second class, they can assemble the front or back of the bag, adjust the shape, and join that to the zipper/side strip. Rarely will students complete the project in class but most will have the components ready to go and should feel comfortable finishing the bag at home. We remind them that it is easier to bind the raw edges at home using a machine in a cabinet rather than a machine on top of a table in class.
