October 2019 Monthly Photo Contest Winners

One of our favorite things at ByAnnie is getting to see all the beautiful things our customers make using our patterns and products.  We love hearing your stories, opinions, and feedback and want to encourage more people to share through our monthly photo contest. Oh, and did we mention you could have a chance to win prizes for all your hard work and creativity?

Grand Prize winners receive a $50 coupon and runners up receive $10 coupons to be used at ByAnnie.com USA! Check out our rules and submission guidelines by clicking the button below!

Since the launch of our monthly photo contest, we've received hundreds of photos of absolutely amazing projects! It's been hard to narrow it down, but the winners below were chosen because the quality of their photographs really let their projects shine.

For the photo contest we are looking for clear, large-sized images. We like to see projects that are well lit and centered nicely in the frame. If possible, we also enjoy seeing multiple angles of a project, or images where we can see how the project will be used. Last, but not least, great photos should also have a clean and clutter-free background. For more tips on how to take great photos, read our blog titled How To Photograph Your Project.

We'd like to congratulate all the winners below! We hope you enjoy reading a bit about their projects. For additional pictures and full stories, be sure to check out our WINNER'S GALLERY!

Runner Up

Maker: Karen K.

Pattern: Get Out of Town 2.0 & Travel Essentials

Fabric: "I choose fabrics to coordinate with my outfit. Moda's Horseshoe Trail is the solid golden brown, Dan Morris Design 2015 for Quilting Treasures is the golden brown/cream print and a batik by Hoffman called Bluff."

Story: "I have been dancing for 18 years and have always wanted to have a bag for my make-up and outfit to take to performances. When I saw ByAnnie's kits, I picked out the Get Out of Town Duffle and the Travel Essentials patterns.

The instructions are thorough, the videos are very helpful. I love all the pocket ideas. The zipper techniques are easy and inspirational. Who knew you could cut zipper lengths and put on pull tabs so easily?  I am turned on by the Clover clips for holding things in place. Since sewing with a stiletto for these projects I can't seem to sew without one. Once I completed those projects I had all these quilted scraps left-over. I pieced them together for a back, used folded vinyl for a see-through pocket on the front, added a zipper and binding and made varying sizes of pockets to carry my jewelry: one for rings, one for necklace, one for bracelets, and one for pins to hold it all together.

After I got all that done, I realized my costume cover-up didn't match. Guess what? I made one. Then I needed a small purse for the wallet, keys, etc. so I made one. When I got a sword, of course, I had to have a matching strap. I did struggle with the straps just a little bit, but I was able to watch one of Annie’s videos to figure it out! I made this bag especially to take to Quilt Market in November."

Runner Up

Maker: Maridel A.

Pattern: Out And About

Fabric: Underground by Tony Kay Steere for Timeless Treasures and Kaffe Fassett for FreeSpirit Fabrics

Story: "Bag of the Month given by my sister with a challenge. We both made bags for our Baltic Seas Cruise and were definitely challenged . My first ByAnnie bag pattern but I am hooked! I learned several new techniques, making my own binding and sewing several layers together with lots of clips!! This is my bag and I think I earned it!  So fun though and I won a 1st Prize at the Oregon State Fair."

Runner Up

Maker: Susan J.

Pattern: Nesting Baskets

Story: "Such a fun project! I made it for my daughter whose birthday is in October and who loves Halloween! It was fairly easy but I did find out the hard was to be sure and zigzag Ann the edges on the bottom and lids before you sew on the sides. I love how it turned out and plan to make many more!"

Runner Up

Maker: Tracy R.

Pattern: Clam Up

Fabric: Wonderland Garden Party by Cotton+Steel

Story: "I really enjoyed making this project. Love the colours and shape. I made this for me for my toiletries when camping. The only challenge was sewing a zipper on the curve. First time for everything."
