March 2019 Monthly Photo Contest Winners
One of our favorite things at ByAnnie is getting to see all the beautiful things our customers make using our patterns and products. We love hearing your stories, opinions, and feedback and want to encourage more people to share through our monthly photo contest. Oh, and did we mention you could have a chance to win prizes for all your hard work and creativity?
Grand Prize winners receive a $50 coupon and runners up receive $10 coupons to be used at ByAnnie.com USA! Check out our rules and submission guidelines by clicking the button below!
Since the launch of our monthly photo contest, we've received hundreds of photos of absolutely amazing projects! It's been hard to narrow it down, but the winners below were chosen because the quality of their photographs really let their projects shine.
For the photo contest we are looking for clear, large-sized images. We like to see projects that are well lit and centered nicely in the frame. If possible, we also enjoy seeing multiple angles of a project, or images where we can see how the project will be used. Last, but not least, great photos should also have a clean and clutter-free background. For more tips on how to take great photos, read our blog titled How To Photograph Your Project.
We'd like to congratulate all the winners below! We hope you enjoy reading a bit about their projects. For additional pictures and full stories, be sure to check out our WINNER'S GALLERY!
Grand Prize Winner
Maker: Fran M.
Pattern: Ultimate Travel Bag
Fabric: WITM Enterprises (Specializes in Lavender Design fabric).
Story: This was the first bag sewing project I have ever done, so I knew there would be many challenges in completing the Ultimate Travel Bag.
The written instructions were detailed and easy to follow. However the additional video tutorial and expertise by Annie really made the difference in my success in completing this project.
I felt like Annie was holding my hand throughout the whole project.
Runner Up
Maker: Kathy P.
Pattern: Clam Up
Fabric: Various fabrics from stash
Story: I am constantly looking for new unique things to make for my sister-in-law for her birthday and since she likes red, I pulled this bright fabric from my stash and bought the Clam Up pattern and got to work.
I made one with the iron-on vinyl inside and the other without. It was very easy to follow the pattern and the video helped too.
Needless to say it was a BIG hit with my sister-in-law; she loved them. It was so quick and easy to make I made one for my mother and myself too. I will be making this many times again for special gifts!
Runner Up
Maker: Linda W.
Pattern: Take A Stand (Large)
Fabric: Speaking Skulls - Spellbound Collection by Quilting Treasures
Story: This is my first ByAnnie pattern and won't be my last! The Add-on Videos were very helpful and the project went together easily. I had never worked with mesh or fold-over elastic and I was concerned about stretching, so I used a walking foot which worked perfectly.
I plan to use this tote to carry a small iron and other larger supplies to sewing guild events.

Runner Up
Maker: Elsa D.
Pattern: Clam Up (Large)
Fabric: Ever Sewn Cork, Natural-Gold (main); Quatro Black/Gold #32985 from Moda (lining)
Story: I was so excited to make this darling pouch for my son's girlfriend, Lynn. She travels often for business, I'm hoping she will find the pouch useful as a makeup bag in her travels.
The pattern and videos are excellent! I read all the instructions and watched all the videos as Annie instructed. Then, I followed the written instructions and referred back to the videos when I needed extra help.
Now that I have made one large pouch, I will know where my difficult aspects will be when making the smaller pouches.
Runner Up
Maker: Candy G. (a.k.a. - Grandma G)
Pattern: Catch All Caddy
Fabric: Time Warp - Barkcloth Sunburst from Jessica Jones for Cloud9 Fabrics, with denim lining and twill contrasting fabric.
Story: I’ve liked the look of the Catch All Caddy since I first saw it, so I finally decided to give it a try, thinking it would be very handy to hold a lot of my sewing tools, etc.
I found it best just to take each step one at a time and trust that it was going to work. There were a lot of helpful tips, and I appreciated all the little labels for the pieces. I also watched and followed Annie’s video on how to connect the ends of the binding, and it worked perfectly!

Runner Up
Maker: Nicole T.
Pattern: Open Wide
Fabric: Tabby Road by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics (main) and Architextures by Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman (binding)
Story: My favorite part of making these bags was using the mesh to make the interior pockets! I love how they look with the lining showing through the pockets. They are so cute and useful!
