ByAnnie Top Voted
WINNER: Carole P @quiltmaniack
PATTERN: Two Big Totes
THEIR STORY: My sister-in-law wanted a diaper bag for her daughter who is expecting her first child. She asked me to make one with a bee theme. I created two FPP bee patterns for the pockets and put hexagons for the base. Her daughter was overjoyed when she saw the bag.
WHAT WE LOVED: Annie had this to say, "I love how Carole found some great FPP blocks to incorporate with the honeycomb look of the bag body to really nail the "bee theme" on this bag. Beautiful fabric choices and workmanship."
WHAT THEY WON: $50 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com
Storyteller Award
WINNER: Becca B @macaronquilts
PATTERN: Double Zip Gear Bag
THEIR STORY: Grief is so common, yet so lonely. It’s riddled with cliches for a reason: nearly everyone has grieved something heavy. Stable people generally find a way to cope with the heaviness, to allow the grief to exist within them without overtaking them. For many sewists, sewing is the answer. I’ve grieved my way through quilts to process the death of close family members like many other sewists.
Recently, I found myself grieving again, this time for my sweet daughter who was diagnosed with diabetes. Grieving doesn’t only happen for death; it can happen for many reasons of course, and a big one is the loss of expectations. With this new diagnosis, she will never be the same. Of course she has ample opportunity to live a healthy and full life, there is no disputing that. But the days of carefree eating are gone forever. She will never go anywhere without medical paraphernalia again. And for a child, this is a huge change. She is handling it very well and adapting. Kids are flexible and learn quickly. But I feel a sting each time I see her give herself a shot of insulin. When I catch a glimpse of her continuous glucose monitor on her arm. When I forget to calculate carbs quickly enough before eating for her. And when I get low blood sugar alerts on my phone while she’s at school. I am still grieving. It’s gotten easier, and it’s only been a couple of months, but grieving takes time.
While I grieve this change, I decided to channel my energy into a productive and lighthearted project. When we take a big family vacation this summer, we will need a way to store and organize her numerous medical supplies, and what better way to do that than with a Double Zip Gear Bag? I elected to make the large size, which I hope will have ample space for all the extra supplies we will need (you can’t be too prepared!), and I decided to add a witty label using Ruby Star’s Selvage Magic letters. Labeling this bag “Pancreas Substitute” will bring a smile to our faces in light of the challenges that come with traveling with diabetes. She loves it and feels special that she has such a fun bag to store her things.
WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Shara had this to say, "I love that she channeled her grief over her daughter's diagnosis into a 'productive and light-hearted project.' "

QE Level Up
WINNER: Jeanne S @jeannesator
PATTERN: Bella Quilt Coat
THEIR STORY: I saw the pattern for the Bella Quilt Coat on the By Annie website and was immediately intrigued. I then joined her Facebook page for the pattern and was blown away by all the amazing coats people were making. I have sewn my whole life, but have never gotten into quilting. All my friends quilt and have teased me about the fact that I haven’t gotten bit by that bug, and paper piecing…not gonna happen!
I thought “I will just make a simple coat first.” I was at my local fabric store and found this beautiful panel and thought to myself “I can use that to add some pizzazz to my simple coat.” I bought panels and started the cut out and quilting of the fabric and then decided to take a deep breath and do some paper piecing on the sleeves.
I made lots of mistakes on that first row for the sleeve but slowly I figured out the process and was so proud that I did it. The pattern sews together beautifully and even though I didn’t add all the amazing paper piecing that many others did on the coat I was really happy with the results. I love the pattern and have made several more coats with panels.
WHAT WE LOVED: Elissa had this to say, " This month’s Quilting Elissa Level-Up Award goes to Jeanne S for her Bella Quilt Coat featuring the Bella Accent Sleeves and a bold, beautiful fabric panel.
What really stands out is how she made the panel the focal point while still keeping the overall design balanced. She thoughtfully pulled complementary colors from the panel into the Bella Accent Sleeves, creating a cohesive look that connects the front and back of the coat.
The Bella Accent Sleeves are simple yet effective, adding contrast while keeping the focus on the overall design. The fabric choices give them a strong visual impact without competing with the panel. Her quilting design adds another layer of interest, echoing the movement within the panel and enhancing the overall flow of the piece.
The contrasting fabrics used for the sleeves, collar, and yokes frame the panel nicely and add structure, helping everything feel polished and intentional.
Congratulations to Jeanne on a beautiful and well-executed finish!

Honorable Mention
WINNER: Brenda L @brendaluxford
PATTERN: Leader of the Pack
THEIR STORY:
I wanted a backpack :) Plus I really really REALLY wanted a great project to showcase the Carnival fabric. I found it. Anyway once I saw there were videos for every step of the way for this project I was in! plus I joined up with the slow along too for added help. And I so wanted to to the flying geese straps so I did get the added on pattern for that too.
I spent alot of time figuring out how best to use the fabric I had and getting the flying geese straps just right with the colors. I have to say I was really worried as I was cutting out the pieces (there were soo soo soo many pieces...lol) that I wasn't going to be able to do it. But I have to say it went together beautifully. I truly didn't have too much trouble with any of the steps (other than running out of bobbin thread halfway during the binding UGGG) but I have to say both Annie's videos and the slow along videos it cleared up any confusion I had on a couple of the steps.
WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Jacque had this to say, " What a fun and vibrant bag. I love how colorful it is and it makes me happy just looking at it."

WINNER: Julie S
PATTERN: Under Cover, Catch All Caddy
THEIR STORY: I am very fortunate…. A good friend gifted me her late mother’s Singer Featherweight, including the original table with the cutout for the Featherweight. It was such a generous gift! I love it so and named the Featherweight after her late mother—Edith.
I needed to give Edith her proper place in my sewing room. Like so many other sewists, my sewing room is my “Happy Place”. Where to begin? The obvious answer was ByAnnie. The table needed a cover. I enjoy sewing with pockets in the front. I found a pattern for that particular table at the Featherweight Shop. But—the pattern needed an upgrade. So, I “ByAnnied” the pattern, using quilted fabric with Soft and Stable, and adding pockets on the front. I used skills I’ve learned from other ByAnnie projects. For the pockets, I printed pages from the Featherweight’s manual on Electric Quilt’s printable fabric. Because of the front pockets and the square size, I used hook and loop tape to secure the front corners and the pockets.
Edith needed a cover—using ByAnnie’s Under Cover as a base, I changed the size of the small pattern to fit Edith while in the table. I have a Bernina embroidery machine and Embrilliance, so I also revised two machine embroidery patterns I purchased—Tula Pink’s Homemade from OESD and a Featherweight pattern from Cactus Punch. I combined the two so it was similar to Tula Pink’s Bernina Homemade pattern, which I have used for other ByAnnie items.
I need to do some maintenance on Edith, therefore I made her a matching Catch All Caddy 2.0 for tools and other items purchased from the Featherweight Shop. I embellished both items with ribbons from Renaissance Ribbons and cute antique sewing machine zipper pulls from Fireweed Stitches.
I love it all and still wonder at my friend’s generosity. I’ve read that possibly in May ByAnnie might introduce a pattern for Featherweights. I can’t wait to see what that might be!
WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Casey had this to say, " Great photos and beautiful set of bags for her new (old) machine. Looking forward to seeing what she does with our new patterns in May (Stitcher's Suitcase and Feathered Friends)."
