ByAnnie Top Voted

WINNER: Jayne V

PATTERN: Hot & Heavy, Clam Up

THEIR STORY:  I am a fan of byAnnie Patterns! I make samples for each of the four Montavilla Sewing Center locations (Portland OR) and then teach others how to make byAnnie projects. I have many family members who love Halloween so this was a great way to be creative and combine the two.

The small Hot & Heavy and the medium size Clam Up will make fun gifts. I look forward to making a whole set of Aubrey 2 Clam Up's before Halloween.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Randi had this to say, "The monster features she added are amazing and so creative."

WHAT THEY WON: $50 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Storyteller Award

WINNER: Nancy G

PATTERN: Round Trip Duffle

THEIR STORY:  A family relative is retiring from the Army after 24 years. I made him a quilt of valor but because he travels a lot, I thought he could use a duffle bag.

I thought it would be a challenge to make a useful bag using a piece of his uniform that he most likely would not be using again. Randi Roost just happened to be starting a Slow Along for this very bag I picked so it seemed 'meant to be'!!

I highly recommend Randi's Slow Along if you haven't made a particular pattern before. It really helped me stay on track and have success.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Joe had this to say, "This bag was made so well, the high quality camo is going to make it hard to find. It's almost invisible."

WHAT THEY WON: $50 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

SewPINK

WINNER: Andie T

PATTERN: Leader of the Pack

THEIR STORY:  This is for my twin sister Angie, who is a 14 year breast cancer survivor! She is my solid rock foundation, and such an inspiration to me. We took a beginner quilting class together in March, and now we sew together almost every day!

She was right there beside me cheering me on to make this amazing backpack!

Except for the faux leather, I used mostly leftover strip sets, nine patch blocks, and scraps from my first quilt, to bring it together. I also added a trolley strap to the back for traveling quickly through airports. Once I put all the pieces together, the assembly went together like a dream, and we both felt such incredible excitement, it is hard to put into words. Think “Chariots of Fire” finish line!

Another Grand Slam, Annie, with this incredible and so easy to follow pattern!

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Casey had this to say, "Such a beautiful bag, and such a heartwarming story! I'm happy that her sister was able to beat breast cancer!"

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Wanda K

PATTERN: In Control

THEIR STORY:  I wanted to make my mom a small basket to “control” things on her dresser and found In Control to be the perfect pattern.

After finishing, I now know I may have to make more as it is such a great size and has wonderful features.

This is only my second By Annie pattern and was the perfect size to practice quilting. I’m pleased that I did a better job than I thought I would. The videos on quilting gave me confidence I could do it.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Jenna had this to say, " love the bag itself and love where the picture was taken the water behind is beautiful."

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Abby H

PATTERN: Call Me

THEIR STORY:  My sister prefers a modified Call Me as her daily purse. When the old one finally wore out, she gave me an assortment of fabrics to make her a new one. Only problem....she gave me many more than I could comfortably use in one small bag. Luckily, I recently had "sewed along" with a Live with Annie to learn FPP technique; I used the provided Flying Geese pattern to include as many fabrics as I could!

Bag is modified with two front fabric pockets for credit cards, etc., and one large fabric pocket for bills. The pockets are interfaced and lined, and attached to two soft and stable sandwiches, between which the phone is stored. Button and elastic for additional phone pocket security.

Learning FPP for a small project is an empowering way to gain proficiency, without being overwhelmed. I'm so grateful to Annie for taking the time to teach us. I can't wait to apply these skills to more bags; the end result is so pretty.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Jacque had this to say, "Such a creative way to modify the bag! It looks great!"

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Mindy R

PATTERN: Two Big Totes, Tools of the Trade, Double Zip Gear Bags, Running With Scissors, Clam Up, Quick Zip Cases, Piecekeeper

THEIR STORY:  When I saw the bear print from "Teddy and the Bears" from Sarah Watts for Ruby Star Society, I knew I had to make a bag out of it, but couldn't decide which bag or which of the four colorways to use!

One day, I had the brilliant idea to make a set of matching bags for retreats. I decided on Running with Scissors (in yellow), Tools of the Trade (in magenta), and two Two Big Totes (in blue and gray). While cutting the Tools of the Trade, I mixed up my height and width so was left with three scraps of very good size.

I ended up making the Piecekeeper (minus the handle), a Quick Zip Case, and a medium-sized Clam Up from those three scraps. A week before retreat, I decided I wanted a new Double Zip Gear Bag for my English Paper Piecing project, so I whipped up one of those and started using it immediately!

The bags made their first appearance at our local guild retreat in the beginning of September, and they will get to make another appearance at another retreat in early October. I am in love with this set!

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Cody had this to say, " I love the bright colors, cute little bear faces and almost forced perspective of some of Mindy R's photos. Trippy!"

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Jami S

PATTERN: Piecekeeper

THEIR STORY:  I've been wanting to try out Foundation Paper Piecing, and found a couple of free FPP patterns to try out that I knew my preschooler would love! I decided they would make a perfect panel for the Piecekeeper.

She can't wait to take this with us to church each week, and I'm already planning my next Piecekeeper for her little brother!

WHAT WE LOVED:  Our team member Megan had this to say, " Such a cute budding artist bag!"

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com
