While some machines struggle to sew through thick layers, most household sewing machines should be able to sew any of our projects. Here are a few things to keep in mind before sewing and for to help you deal with the bulk:
1. The more you sew through Soft and Stable, the more it compresses. So, extra lines of stitching the seam allowance will really help to compress the layers.
2. We sew using a 90/14 topstitch needle and SoFIne #50 thread. This is a 50-wt polyester thread that has a bit of stretch.
A topstitch needle has a strong, sturdy shank and a groove down the shank in which the thread rests. It also has an eye that is twice as big as a regular needle which really helps when threading.
Another option would be to use a denim/jeans needle in a size 90 or even 100.
3. Needle breakage i
We sell more white Soft and Stable, but we use more black. Here is why:
Usually when we are making a purse or bag, we are using dark fabrics. Dark fabrics hide dirt so are perfect for projects that get a lot of wear and tear. Black Soft and Stable enhances those darker colors, making them look more rich and intense.
Sometimes in the construction of a purse or bag, the layer of Soft and Stable may show (such as when a zipper is installed). If we are using dark fabrics, we'd prefer not to have a white line showing along the edge of the seam.
Black Soft and Stable is slightly thinner than white Soft and Stable so if you have a machine that has trouble with thicker layers, you may find it easier to work with black Soft and Stable.
Finally, though the changes are cosmetic only and won't aff

*What is a 2.0 or 2.1?*
A 2.0 is a new pattern . Just like a new edition of a textbook, a 2.0 (or a 2.1) version of a pattern features the newest content and best techniques we have to offer. Updates may include improvements in the instructions, layout, illustrations, and/or changes to the finished project itself in order to make it more functional or easier to make. The 2.0 versions may also include Add-on Videos to ensure your success.
A 2.0 is not a correction . We are improving the pattern. Every 2.0 goes through the same process as an entirely new pattern.
Although we recommend that you upgrade to the 2.0, we know that you will be able to make something you will be proud of using the original pattern. We know we have!
