Welcome to our blog post for the Morrison Park Fabric Tour!
If you’re looking for sewing inspiration, you’ve come to the right place! We made a few ByAnnie patterns using the blue colorway of the Morrison Park fabric line by Pat Sloan (Benartex Fabrics), and we are so excited to share them with you.
Running With Scissors
The first project we want to show off is our Running With Scissors tool case pattern. This pattern is a top-seller and for good reason! It has many snug compartments for holding tools and sewing essentials.
The zipper along the outside keeps the case securely closed when not in use.
Zippered pockets on the front and back provide secure storage for items such as small rulers, manuals, calculator, or other objects you might need.
A sturdy handle on the 'spine' of the case make carrying and transportation easy.
A separate small pad can be inserted into the case before closing to protect tools and prevent them from knocking against each other.
Fabric requirements:
- Main fabric - ¾ yard
- Lining fabric - ¾ yard
- Coordinating fabric - ¾ yard
Take A Stand
Whenever we sew a Running With Scissors tool case, we are sure to make a Take A Stand bag to match.
Take A Stand comes in two sizes, small (12½“H x 16”W x 8”D) and large (8¾”H x 12”W x 6½”D). The small was specifically designed to serve as a base for the Running With Scissors. As you’ll see in the images below, it makes access to everything so easy!
The small size is great for carrying thread cones and project pieces. The large size can fit a small sewing machine (be sure you get a base stabilizer for extra support!) and is also perfect for transporting large items like an iron and pressing ham.
Fabric requirements (small size):
- Main fabric - ¾ yard
- Lining fabric - ¾ yard
- Coordinating fabric - ¾ yard
Fabric requirements (large size):
- Main fabric - 1 yard
- Lining fabric - 1 yard
- Coordinating fabric - ¾ yard
Companion patterns!
Look at how Running With Scissors and the small Take A Stand work together! Just unzip the Running With Scissors tool case and drape it over Take A Stand for an easy-to-access sewing tool station. Tula Pink says that she sets hers on a revolving stand so that she can just turn it as she works to access each and every tool.
There are so many uses for these bags beyond sewing! Fill Running With Scissors with makeup brushes, art supplies, or other hobbyist tools. Imagine filling Running With Scissors with your various crochet hooks and knitting needles and using the small Take A Stand to store a couple skeins of yarn. Nice!
Bosom Buddy
Because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), we thought it would be fitting to include our Bosom Buddy in some handsome blue Morrison Park fabrics.
Bosom Buddy debuted last year (2019) as part of our SewPINK Initiative. Our goal was (and still is) to raise awareness for breast cancer prevention and care. Our first SewPINK blog hop last year was so much fun and we’re excited to host it again this year. Join us on our SewPINK 2020 adventure!
Bosom Buddy is a soft, comfortable cushion made to reduce discomfort and protect tender areas after surgeries or chemo port placements. Seat belt rub can be brutal! The pattern is available as a PDF download and we’ve also filmed a complete video to walk you step by step through making it.
These make great guild projects if you’re looking for something simple and sweet to donate. And, if you’re like us, you likely know one or two people who would love one as a gift.
Fabric requirements:
- Main fabric - fat quarter
- Coordinating fabric - ⅓ yard
