#SewPINK 2019 Handle It

ByAnnie.com reminds you that when it comes to mammograms, there is no better time than now to Handle It.

Watch the Handle It introduction video below to find out all about this amazing door-hanging organizer!

Sew Far In #SewPINK

As you may already know this month we began the #SewPINK Intitative to help raise awareness for breast cancer. We are so thankful for the love and support of the sewing industry thus far!

We have already had over 10 celebrity blog posts, showcasing their wonderful Breast Cancer Awareness Month projects. We've seen quilts (Master Piece Quilting and Suzn Quilts), free patterns (Among Brenda's Quilts & Bags, Sew Kind of Wonderful, Sue O'Very Designs, Hugs N' Kisses), paper pieced projects (Sewfinity) and so much more! If you want to catch up on the posts, you can see the entire event calendar here.

Getting a Handle on Mammograms

Despite it's limitations, a mammogram is the most effective form of screening. It's not the funnest appointment you'll have all year, but in 20 minutes a mammogram can identify cancer several years before any physical symptoms develop.

It can be scary while you wait for results, or even more scary if you are asked for a return visit, but you can handle it!

It's important to stay positive as you handle your screenings.

Did you know that 1 in 9 mammograms result in a callback for further testing, and 95% of these callbacks do not have cancer!

About Handle It

This is the perfect pattern for a quick project to make for a loved one. No quilting required makes for fast and easy assembly! For easy customization, Handle It offers two different versions of the pattern.

Version 1 makes for a great purse organizer and has an attached swivel hook for keeping keys and all your on-the-go items!

Version 2 has a fun chalkboard fabric pocket to leave encouraging notes or reminders to keep/make appointments (like that mammogram appointment).

Sew with Annie!

The Handle It pattern has an available Add-On video to help through any of the challenging parts of the project!

A coupon code is provided when you purchase the pattern, allowing you to have access to the videos in your digital library, when logged into your account on ByAnnie.com.

More on handling your mammograms

There are a few schools of thought when it comes to mammograms, but we at ByAnnie want to encourage everyone to seriously consider speaking to your healthcare professional about annual mammogram appointments. For 2019, breast cancer is estimated to account for 6.9% of all cancer deaths at roughly 41,760 passing from the disease. With early detection, the survival rate for breast cancer isolated to the breast is 99%. This is why it is so important to make your appointment.

The annual Well-Woman Exam is completely covered by all insurances.

Cancer is unique to every individual, speak to your physician about your family history and ask if you should pursue genetic counseling for a better understanding of your risks. The non-profit organization "Bright Pink" offers a risk assessment quiz to print out and bring to your next appointment. Find it here.

Week 2 Featured Winner!

We found this weeks winner on Instagram. Brianna of Sew Cute and Quirky had this to say about breast cancer:

"I had a grandmother who has since passed, who had breast cancer many years ago. It was during the 60’s when technology was not at its best. She had gone in for an exploratory procedure, and woke up with one breast removed. It had bothered since prior to her passing. She survived it and lived into her 80’s but always felt self-conscious about it."

"I also had a friend, who was a coworker of mine, who found out she had breast cancer in her 30’s. Because of technology, awareness and research, she is here today. She is now in her 40’s like me. Women and their families should stay strong and be proactive as it is important to be aware. I decided to make this clutch because it is bright and pink to show my support. I used Annie’s soft and stable sew in foam and love it. It's perfect for many of my projects. I love your patterns. I made your road trip bag and taught it at a sewing store near me and I have made the meshing around pattern as well as others. Your patterns are great."
